X Factor twins John and Edward in final six

Jedward fans were in rhapsody last night as their idols breezed through another round of the X Factor thanks to the public vote.

John and Edward Grimes were spared a repeat of last week’s results show when they were in the bottom two and controversially saved by judge — and Jedward nemesis — Simon Cowell.

Instead it was the 33-year-old singer Jamie Archer who got the boot last night after ending up in the bottom two with cherubic teen Lloyd Daniels.

Judges Cheryl Cole, Louise Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell were split on who to send home so Jamie went as he’d received the least number of votes from the public.

Resplendent in silver lame suits, their quiffs restored to their normal glory, John and Edward sang the falsetto ‘Galileo! Galileo’ phrase in a group performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody with help from Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.

And all 12 finalists were reunited to perform this year’s X Factor charity single, a cover of Michael Jackson’s You Are Not Alone, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. But the twins’ singing role in the single seemed limited.

On Saturday night’s Queen-themed show the twins performed Queen/David Bowie’s Under Pressure with aplomb — and even had the showbiz sang froid to keep singing during an unexpected stage invasion by pop star Calvin Harris.

Meanwhile, Irish fans of the X Factor are finding a way of keeping their favourite sons in the competition, which officially only accepts votes from UK residents.

Free2call.tv is a cheaper alternative to the X Factor's premium-rate voting line — and its chief executive Mark Hillman told The Mail on Sunday up to 12% of the 50,000 voters who have used from the service are Irish.

Edward Boddington of Harvest Media, which is running the official X Factor voting line, said that as well as being a breach of the rules, the service was “likely to distort the voting patterns in favour of those contestants or judges that have an association with Ireland”.

Personally I think it's rather sad that people are so indignant about this! It's pathetic actually. It's a soap opera and a really good one at that. Everyone who complained to Ofcom about them staying in the show really need to get a life. Regarding them staying on the show because Irish expats are voting for them en mass or people in the ROI are managing to get votes across doesn't add up. The population of English people in England is far higher then that of the combined population of Irish in the UK and back in Ireland.

If it's all based on bias then you xfactor people need not worry as it therefore stands to reason that an English act will win!

Get a life people;-)

They are just having a laugh - they don't take themselves seriously. Fair play to them. Don't forget they are only 17. Been reading the comments on BT re: the twins. I detect that there are quite a few in the north of Ireland who want them voted off because they are Irish. Also love the way BT keeps hinting that that they are only being kept in because southern Irish fans are cheating the system and voting for them. Typical unionist rag.

The good thing about the twins is that they know they are having a laugh and this is all a big joke. Whereas the others take it all seriously and actually think they are amazing. I think it hilarious they have got this far - fair play to them. Hope they win. It is also pretty funny how many people are getting to worked up and angry about X Factor. For crying out loud there is more important things going in the world that you really should be angry about. Idiots.

Was Spain allowed to vote last year when the Spanish girl was in the finals. No, thats right - because it is not in Britain! Why people think that the border does not exist because we are one land mass or because two untalented divvies from Ireland got through is infuriating!.

Bron - Residents in the Republic of Ireland cannot vote on the X Factor! You have to be in the UK to vote so this defeats the theory that people in the ROI are keeping Jedward in, they obviously have lot's of fans in the UK.
People need to stop whinging about Jedward still being in the contest. It's the public who decide who stays, apart from the bottom two who are mostly voted out by the judges, and obviously the public don't want them to go. If you don't like it either vote for someone else or just don't watch, stop whinging!!!!!!!

Reminds me of the fable where Icarus flew too close to the sun, thinking he was invincible.

Simon Cowell had the opportunity to lose these two clowns, but revelled in his own publicity. Hopefully, they'll now go on to win the darn thing, and bring the whole 'x-factor' phenomenon tumbling down round him like a pack of cards.... Can't wait!!

I don't understand this business of the Irish distorting the vote...Isn't Lloyd Welsh and Rikki Scottish? Surely according to that theory the Welsh and the Scottish should also be banned from voting - but then Joe is English so according to the 'rules' the English should be banned from voting...errrrr so who is going to vote?
