Young Frankenstein musical to star Ross Noble and Lesley Joseph
The musical will open in the West End in September.
Comedian Ross Noble and Birds Of A Feather star Lesley Joseph will appear in a new stage production of Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein.
The musical will be based on the hit 1974 movie of the same name and will feature West End star Hadley Fraser in the title role of Dr Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of Dr Victor Frankenstein.
The part was first made famous by Gene Wilder in the Oscar-nominated film, which is a reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel and sees Frederick inherit a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather Victor.
It was co-written by Mel and Gene and directed by Mel.
Ross will play Frederick’s hunchbacked bug-eyed servant Igor, while Lesley, who recently competed in Strictly Come Dancing, will take on the role of housekeeper Frau Blucher.
West End regulars Dianne Pilkington, Summer Strallen and Patrick Clancy will also star in the production, while Mel will produce the show alongside Michael Harrison and Fiery Angel.
The show will play a pre-West End season at the Theatre Royal Newcastle from August 26 to September 9 before opening at the Garrick Theatre on September 28, with a press night on October 10.
