Zellweger to make directorial debut

Renee Zellweger is set to make her directorial debut

Renee Zellweger is to step behind the camera, directing a new film about stand-up comedy.

The Bridget Jones star will make her directorial debut with 4 1/2 Minutes, in which she will also star opposite Jack Ass' Johnny Knoxville, Variety reports.

Johnny will play Jimmy Bennett, a down-on-his-luck, commitment-phobic comedian.

But his world is changed when he takes a job looking after the genius child of single mother PJ Anderson, played by Renee.

The movie, announced at the Toronto Film Festival, is based on the life of stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff, who co-wrote the film with Anthony Tambakis.

The comedy will be set in New York and is due to begin shooting in Gotham in February.
