Going The Distance (15)

And here we are right back in romcomsville.

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long are among the more personable of their type, but they're rather let down by an unremittingly coarse script.

She's an aspiring newspaper reporter, he works for a record label, and their cute-meet in a bar leads swiftly and promisingly back to his place. Trouble is, she's an intern at a New York daily and must head back in six weeks to complete her degree in San Francisco. Can they keep alive their long-distance love? We look on, half-amused: his favourite movie is Top Gun, but he's not such a jerk. She wears a bow-tie around her bare neck, but she's OK, too. What undoes the mood are scenes of phone-sex and the supposedly loveable trash talk of his two beardy flatmates. And everyone always seems to be eating. Or is that just normal life in America?
