Masterclass from the old school

By Andrew Johnston

Well-known for his appearances on The Comedians, Mick Miller is one of a handful of 1970s stand-ups still touring.

Now 62, Miller has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years.

On Tuesday night, he treated a small but eager Festival audience to an hour of non-stop schtick. There was hardly any smut and next to no bad language, just punchline after punchline, all masterfully timed and delivered.

Establishing an easy rapport, Miller didn't let the disappointing turnout put him off.

And proving he's a nice guy as well as a class act, Miller stuck around in the bar afterwards and chatted with fans. Sometimes the old ones are the best.
