The Vicious White Kids
Live at the Electric Ballroom (Sanctuary)
Friday, 12 January 2007
He was a one-chord guitar wonder and hadn't a note in his head but Sid Vicious had that all-important musical trait - the look!
Even by punk's lowly musical standards, Sid was shocking.
But the moment this gawky snarling bean-pole, with trademark padlock around his neck, stepped on stage, you were transfixed.
He and Johnny Rotten defined an era.
Then Sid decided to go solo and, armed with a few hit singles, incredibly teamed up with Glen Matlock - the man who was sacked so Vicious could become the Sex Pistols' bassist - and Damned drummer Rat Scabies for a live show at The Electric Ballroom in 1978.
Now Sanctuary has released this one-off show on CD complete with extra bonus material including a 30-minute interview with Scabies and Matlock.
As for the music, it's raw and wonderfully chaotic - with outrageous versions of songs like I Wanna Be Your Dog and of course Sinatra's My Way.
