Dire Straits fans will be heading to the Odyssey Arena next year to hear
Mark Knopfler play some old classics as well as some of his newer material.
The band's frontman will be in Belfast on May 20 and tickets, priced £38 and £40, go on sale on September 24 from Ticketmaster and usual outlets.
London-based five-piece and NME favourites New Young Pony Club will be at the Stiff Kitten on Friday, October 5 to help kick off a new night of music. Fad is the brainchild of Joe Dougan and Jim Harte and will feature a mash up of indie, old skool hip hop, classic tracks and quality dance tunes. Given the success of Joe's former project Radio K at McHugh's, expect a packed dancefloor at Fad, so get there early if you want to get in. Tickets for the launch night are £9 or £10 on the door. Ulster rock band 9Lies are heading home this weekend after playing at the Vena Festival in Lodz in Poland last night. The Belfast band were on the bill at the five-day music festival, alongside the likes of Sugababes and Fun Lovin Criminals. New album Halfway From Nowhere is almost finished and according to the lads, "sounding fantastic".
Fresh from their support slot at the recent Snow Patrol gig at Ward Park in Bangor, local band Kowalski have announced a headline show at the Spring & Airbrake on Friday, September 28. Patiosounds are confirmed as support with one more to be added. Tickets available from usual Ticketmaster outlets and on the door on the night.
Singer/songwriter Mickey Harte (above) has penned a song to help raise funds for Special Olympics Ireland as they prepare to head to Shanghai next month for the World Summer Games. Mickey, who performed at the closing ceremony of the Special Olympics at Croke Park in Dublin in 2003, teamed up with Keith Molloy and Martin Brannigan to produce the track Everyone Wins, which is released today from all good record stores and retail outlets nationwide.
