1D surprise fans with mall gig

One Direction stars Niall Horan and Liam Payne performed at Westfield

One Direction's Niall Horan and Liam Payne surprised shoppers at Westfield London with an impromptu performance.

The boyband members, minus bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, created a surge of excitement amongst unsuspecting customers and employees when they turned up at the shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush.

The pair - who were earlier presented with special discs after selling around eight million singles, three million albums and a million DVDs in less than a year - performed an acoustic version of their hit What Makes You Beautiful with house band Soul Chango on the pop-up stage, as part of the centre's summer entertainment programme.

"It's so nice to see so many of you outside every day :) xxx," tweeted Liam after the gig.

He also revealed that the group have been in the recording studio working on their second album, which is expected to be out later this year.

"I cant waaaiittt for the new album to come outttt!!! Exxccciitteedddd. I think you guys are gunna love it," he wrote.

The 18-year-old also denied that he is planning to marry his dancer girlfriend Danielle Peazer.

"I'm not getting married. The Sun newspaper can't seem to wait for me to get married - Gordon no need to rush wen I am I'll send u an invite ;)" he added.

One Direction, who have returned from a US tour with Olly Murs, are set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on September 6 where they are up for two awards, before embarking on a worldwide tour next year.
