Albarn postpones Sydney concert

Damon Albarn has postponed a gig at the Sydney Opera House over the ongoing siege in the Australian city.

The Opera House was evacuated at 10am local time following reports of a suspicious package, while an unknown number of people are still being held as hostages in the Lindt Chocolat Cafe in Martin Place, a plaza in the heart of the city's financial and shopping district.

Damon shared the Sydney Opera House's Facebook post, which read: "In light of the situation in the CBD [central business district] today, we have decided to cancel tonight's (December 15) performances at the Opera House.

"This is to minimise pressure on transport networks and to provide as much notice as possible to staff and patrons."

The Blur and Gorillaz co-founder, who is on the Australian leg of his tour in support of his debut solo album, Everyday Robots, was due to perform the first of two gigs tonight. Instead, he has agreed to play two shows at the venue tomorrow (December 16), at 7pm and 9.30pm, instead of one at 8pm.

John Legend is also due to perform at the venue, with his show scheduled for December 18.
