Alicia Keys is following Jay-Z and Will Smith into the world of Broadway producers

Alicia Keys is following Jay-Z and Will Smith into the world of Broadway producers.

The singer, whose hits include Fallin' and A Woman's Worth, will help produce the play Stick Fly.

The Lydia R Diamond work is described as a contemporary comedy of manners revolving around an affluent black family. Alicia says it's a story that everyone can relate to.

The piece has been performed in Boston, Chicago and Washington, DC. It begins performances at the Lyceum Theatre on 45th Street on November 18 and officially opens December 8.

Ms Diamond, a playwriting professor at Boston University, adapted Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye for the stage and has written Stage Black and The Gift Horse.

In 2009, Jay-Z, Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith joined the producing team of the musical Fela.

Read the fine print on a contract. If you're not happy with the proposed terms of a deal, renegotiate. Don't be afraid to drive a hard bargain. You may not realise it, but you have a great deal of power. People are willing to pay good money for someone with your intelligence and experience. If you undersell yourself, you will set a dangerous precedent. Someone will ask you to do something that goes against your conscience. Obey your principles, even if it means making an enemy.More
