Lily Allen has accepted damages over allegations that she made offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole.
A judge at the High Court in London was told that the case arose out of an article published in a football magazine in May 2009.
The star's solicitor-advocate Mark Thomson told Mr Justice Eady the publishers of So Foot, a French language magazine, now accepted the singer, who Mr Thomson described as an "internationally respected singer and songwriter, had not made the statements attributed to her.
He said the defendant, So Press, had agreed to apologise and also "pay the claimant damages and legal costs".
Mr Thomson said in those circumstances her "reputation has been vindicated".
He said that in the May 2009 issue of So Foot magazine, an article was published which "purported to be an exclusive, first-person interview given by the claimant to the magazine".
He added: "The interview suggested that the claimant had made various offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole.
"The statements attributed to the claimant were then repeated in an article in The Sun newspaper on May 7 2009."
So Press now accepts "that the claimant did not make the statements attributed to her in their magazine and that, contrary to their previous understanding of the position, no interview in fact took place with the claimant".
Richard Dugdale, solicitor for the defendant, said it offered "sincere apologies to the claimant for the damage, as well as the upset and embarrassment caused to her by the publication of the article".
