American Idiot musical draws showbiz stars to West End opening night

Showbiz stars hit the red carpet for the opening night of the Green Day-inspired Broadway musical American Idiot.

The Tony and Grammy award-winning show opened at the Arts Theatre in London this evening, with former X-Factor finalist Amelia Lily making her West End debut.

The musical follows the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world.

It features songs by punk-pop act Green Day, including Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends and American Idiot, the title track from the band's 2004 hit album.

Big Brother presenter Emma Willis and husband Matt attended the launch, alongside former X-Factor contestants Diana Vickers and Joe McElderry, who won the sixth series of the show.

American Idiot is at the theatre until September 27.
