Peter Andre switches on Christmas lights at East Kilbride Shopping Centre

Pop star Peter Andre officially got the festive season under way as he switched on the Christmas lights.

He jetted into East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, to turn on the lights at the town's shopping centre.

Hundreds of screaming fans came to see the Mysterious Girl singer switch on the illuminations and perform some of his hits.

The Australian-born singer returned to prominence in 2004, after his appearance on reality show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! where he met his future wife Katie Price, who he later split from.

He later re-released his hit song Mysterious Girl which hit the number one spot eight years after its original release. His latest album Accelerate peaked at number 10 in the UK charts in November last year.

Sky 1's Got To Dance stars, The Box, and Britain's Got Talent's Edward Reid also performed.

Shopping centre director Ian McLelland said: "It is a fantastic way to get our festive programme off the ground."

The singer said after the event: "I honestly didn't expect the amount of people that were there.

"I was blown away. It was lovely to see so many people come down to East Kilbride Shopping Centre and get into the Christmas spirit.

"It was an amazing day and the audience was fantastic. Scottish crowds are great and they really get in to the spirit of things."
