Matt Berry says people often mistake his gigs for a comedy music act.
Comedian and actor Matt, who starred in The IT Crown and The Mighty Boosh, is also a successful musician but finds fans of his acting work don't realise that his singing is a separate project.
He said: "It's definitely Matt Berry playing songs from my album, trying to get it done right and making sure things go well. So no, not consciously, I don't have to become a character, and it's not a comedy gig, that is a misconception about my music.
"There are no sly winks or nods, and it's all done for love."
Matt, who is currently touring his fourth album Kill The Wolf, said he doesn't see some of his more unfashionable musical tastes as guilty pleasures.
"Someone was telling me recently that I've made an album which references their guilty pleasures, like prog rock and old psychedelic folk. Well, I don't feel guilty about any of this, I don't care who knows that I love all that sort of music."
