Beyonce to direct own documentary

Beyonce got behind the camera for the documentary

Beyonce will make her debut as a filmmaker with an "intimate and revealing" documentary about her life.

The Grammy-winning singer-actress will direct and star in the as-yet-untitled film giving a glimpse of her life as a pop superstar as well as sharing her off-stage moments with rapper husband Jay-Z and their baby daughter Blue Ivy.

The documentary, which will air on US network HBO on February 16 2013, will feature first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyonce herself on her laptop along with behind-the-scenes coverage of her preparing for live shows and running her production company.

"This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home. HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity," she said in a statement.

"Some of my favourite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming."

HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo added: "Everybody knows Beyonce's music, but few know Beyonce the person. Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce on stage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman."

Beyonce, who gave birth to Blue Ivy in January 2012, is due to perform at the Super Bowl half time show on February 3.
