Jake Bugg says he wants to inspire other budding stars to write and play their own songs.

The double NME awards nominee is up for Best Album for his self-titled debut, which shot to number one in the charts, and Best Solo Artist at the bash.

He told the Daily Star: "I don't pay attention to compliments. People saying they think you're great is nice, but it shouldn't sink in.

"I want to inspire young people to pick up instruments and write tunes again; that'd make me happy."

The 18-year-old added: "The key is to practise and write your songs - be inspired and have that willpower."

Jake said he wanted to crack the US market, telling the newspaper: "America has been brilliant. I did some shows recently and they were all sold out."

Read the fine print on a contract. If you're not happy with the proposed terms of a deal, renegotiate. Don't be afraid to drive a hard bargain. You may not realise it, but you have a great deal of power. People are willing to pay good money for someone with your intelligence and experience. If you undersell yourself, you will set a dangerous precedent. Someone will ask you to do something that goes against your conscience. Obey your principles, even if it means making an enemy.More
