Carly Rae Jepsen has encouraged anyone thinking of auditioning for a talent show to "go for it".
The Call Me Maybe singer finished third on Canadian Idol five years ago.
Carly told The Metro: "I would encourage anyone who's considering whether or not to take a chance at that, to jump and go for it.
"I placed third but it was that amount of 15 minutes' exposure that really locked a career for me."
But the 26-year-old singer isn't planning to take the spare seat on the American Idol judging panel.
She said: "I'm just looking forward to sinking my teeth into the music and getting pumped up for the tour."
Carly also said she feels she owes a lot of her career success to Justin Bieber, who helped her shoot to fame after tweeting links to her music and inviting her to support him at a gig in Mexico City.
Carly said: "I owe Justin a lot. He's been such an amazing supporter.
"I feel very grateful to have met him and thankful for all the things he's brought into my life."
