Cash-strapped Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle joins C-list cast of Celebrity Big Brother
Nadine Coyle is set to appear in Celebrity Big Brother in a bid to boost her ailing bank balance and save her LA bar.
Londonderry-born Coyle, whose Irish-themed pub owes almost £100,000 in taxes in the US, is understood to have agreed to take part in the Channel 5 show — for a healthy fee of £500,000.
It is the second highest amount of money paid out by Channel 5 for a Celebrity Big Brother appearance. Last year Irish twins Jedward were paid £1m for starring in the show.
According to sources, the 26-year-old was keen to pay off all her debts before embarking on a Girls Aloud reunion tour.
She initially turned the offer down but after meeting with Channel 5 bosses, agreed to sign up for the price of around £100,000 a week.
The singer posted a cryptic message on Twitter, saying: “If I told you what I done today you would never believe it. I barely believe it myself.”
But a spokeswoman for Celebrity Big Brother refused to confirm that Coyle was going into the house.
“We won't reveal the line-up until the celebrities are entering the house,” she said.
It is believed she hopes the public will warm to her Irish charm, in the same way viewers fell in love with Cheryl Cole on The X Factor.
The news of Coyle's Big Brother appearance comes as Cole prepares to make a chart comeback.
The popstar, who was sacked from America’s X Factor by Simon Cowell, is set to take the charts by storm again following a successful solo launch in 2009.
Cole's new single Call My Name made its UK radio debut yesterday morning.
While Cole enjoyed success with her solo career, Coyle has struggled with hers.
Also lined up to star in this year's Celebrity Big Brother is former Arsenal footballer Freddie Ljungberg, while Julian Clary and Julie Goodyear are in talks with the show's producers.
