Coldplay: We'll never be Take That

Chris Martin reckons Coldplay aren't good looking enough to be as big as Take That

Chris Martin has said he doesn't think Coldplay will ever be as famous as Take That.

The Paradise singer - who is currently on a world tour with his band - told Bauer Radio he doesn't think Coldplay are handsome enough to compete with Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow.

Frontman Chris said: "I think what we do next will probably be something quite small, but that doesn't mean we don't love doing the big stuff! It's probably good for us to mix it up a bit. You can't keep trying to get bigger and bigger, you can't try and compete with Take That!

"They do have Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow, they have those five handsome men and you don't need wristbands when you have that much talent in the looks department!"

The band performed new song Princess Of China at the Grammy Awards this year with Rihanna. But drummer Will Champion revealed they had their doubts about working with the Where Have You Been star.

Will said: "Chris had written that song quite a long time ago and he had always had it in his head that Rihanna was going to be singing the female part of the song. We questioned whether we should have anyone sing on our album because we hadn't done it before.

"We all love Rihanna and we came to the decision that if we are going to get someone to come and sing on it, it should be the best person and she's obviously an incredible artist and she was the original intention for the female part so it just had to be her really!"

::The full interview and exclusive Coldplay gig will be aired tonight from 8pm across 20 Bauer Radio stations in the UK. More information can be found at www.coldplayindemand.com.
