Some of Coronation Street's biggest stars have lent their vocal talents to an album to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary.

Kym Marsh, Brian Capron and William Roache all feature on Coronation Street - Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools.

Katherine Kelly performs in character as gobby barmaid Becky McDonald on the track If It's Too Late, which will be released as a single later this year.

The album, penned by musicals writer Trisha Ward and featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, charts five decades of drama and humour on the cobbles.

Stan and Hilda Ogden's second honeymoon is celebrated on the track Woman Stanley Woman, while serial killer Richard Hillman's reign of terror takes musical form on Norman Bates With A Briefcase.

The soap's executive producer Kieran Roberts said: "When I met Trisha and saw how passionate she was about the show and heard the brilliant songs she was writing I very quickly became excited about the idea.

"Two years down the line I'm thrilled this music project has come to fruition in such a wonderful album of original songs - it is without doubt a unique and fitting way to celebrate 50 years of Coronation Street."

Rachel Leskovac, who recently bowed out of her role as Natasha Blakeman, pays homage to Bet Lynch on the album, while Kym pays tribute to Elsie Tanner. Kevin Kennedy, best known for playing Curly Watts, also features, as does Betty Driver (Betty Williams), David Neilson (Roy Cropper) and Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper).

Although plans are under way for a Coronation Street musical, a soap spokesman insisted the album was a "separate entity".

The album will be available at Tesco from November 29, and the single If It's Too Late goes on sale on December 6.
