Cyrus wanted to be like Spears?
Miley Cyrus has hinted that Britney Spears was the inspiration for her raunchy new image.
The former Hannah Montana star recently sparked controversy with her saucy display at the MTV Video Music Awards - where she twerked at Robin Thicke while wearing a skimpy nude latex bikini and touching herself with a giant foam finger - and hit the headlines again for riding a demolition ball while naked in her new video.
The singer has now revealed she is a huge fan of Britney - who has had her share of controversial awards ceremony performances - and used to try to copy her routines, reported the Daily Mirror.
Miley told Alan Carr on his Chatty Man show on Channel 4: "I was obsessed with her Slave For You video. That was the first head shake I got from my dad when the video came out, as I tried to re-enact the whole film.
"Britney once performed across the street from my dad's apartment in Canada - but there was no way I was going at that point as I was always trying to re-enact everything she did."
The 20-year-old also defended her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
"I thought the spirit of the VMAs was missing. It was supposed to be about celebrating your video. You knew Robin Thicke and I were not going to do the Hokey Cokey. It was supposed to be a silly night," she insisted.
"I didn't think about the reaction until the next morning when I realised the whole world was going crazy. But I'm not surprised by anybody's reaction any more as I'm never going to get it right no matter what I do. I say, 'Keep people talking'."
