Davison hosts Doctor Who music tour

Former Doctor Who star Peter Davison is to be the presenter of a musical tour of the hit TV show's tunes.

The 63-year-old actor, who played the fifth Time Lord for three years from 1981, will be on stage for the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular which calls at a number of UK arenas next year.

Davison - whose daughter Georgia is married to David Tennant, who has also played the Doctor - hosted a similar tour in Australia and New Zealand earlier this year.

The tour will feature music written for the family sci-fi series by composer Murray Gold since 2005 and will feature more than 100 performers including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and members of the BBC National Chorus of Wales.

Daleks, Cybermen and the Silence are among the creatures which will also be present at the venues for the concerts.

Davison said: "Doctor Who fans are an extraordinary, wonderful bunch, who are very passionate about the series. The Symphonic Spectacular has already proved to be a monster hit Down Under with thousands of fans packing into arenas across the southern hemisphere, and the UK's first ever tour promises to be even bigger."

The UK shows begin at the SSE Arena on May 23 - with a further date at the venue added for the following day due to demand - and it will wind up on May 29 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

Tickets are on sale now.
