Sir Elton John has revealed his friends once spiked his dinner with cocaine so he would stay up all night entertaining them on the piano.
The 63-year-old pop legend recalls in new documentary Madman Across The Water: The Making Of Elton John, how he once left a party after staying up all night, and couldn't understand why he didn't feel tired.
Elton said: "I left at 7.30 in the morning and I thought, 'I've never stayed up until 7.30 before but I feel really good!' Years later I learned they had put cocaine in my food."
Danny Hutton, of the American rock band Three Dog Night, admitted to spiking Sir Elton's food, saying: "I might have forgot to tell him. Well it certainly didn't hurt him. He went on to be quite successful."
The documentary will be shown as part of BBC Two's Night With Elton, which airs from 9.40pm on October 30.
The night will include highlights from Elton's set at the Electric Proms, which will be aired live on Radio 2 on October 28.
