Eminem to play Wembley Stadium

Eminem is to become the first rapper to perform a headline show at Wembley Stadium.

He will take to the stage at the north west London venue on July 11.

He said it comes after plans to play in Hyde Park fell through, adding that "it made me even more excited to play in London this summer".

Eminem said: "The easiest way to get me to do something is to tell me I can't do it. Thanks to the Royal Parks for making it all possible... for Wembley."

It will be Eminem's first London show since 2001 as all of his UK dates since then have been top-billing festival slots elsewhere across the country. With his strong fanbase, the chances are that it will add to his worldwide success, which includes 103 million album sales to date.

His recently-released album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 broke records when it was released in the UK and debuted at number one. It became Eminem's seventh number one album and made him the first American act to score seven consecutive UK number one albums.

His new single Headlights, featuring Nate Ruess, which is to be accompanied by a Spike Lee-directed video, is being released to coincide with the Wembley show.
