Eoghan to unseat Nadine in charts

Wednesday, 29 October 2008

X-factor's Eoghan Quigg and Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle will be part of a history-making pop double for Northern Ireland at the weekend.

Londonderry-born Nadine and her band are currently No 1 but they are about to ousted by Eoghan from Dungiven and his fellow X-factor finalists.

Hero, the new track by the X-Factor line up, could become one of the biggest-selling releases of the decade, according to latest figures. The single has been recorded for The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and Help for Heroes, a charity that provides support for wounded servicemen and women.

It is already certain to land this week’s No 1, removing Girls Aloud and their new single The Promise from the top spot.

Hero is expected to sell more than 300,000 copies across the UK this week.

flim stop trying to twist what I'm saying! I dont like the xfactor drivel - whether the singers (?!) are from China, Wales or Timbuktu! all the best to them all but its not my cup of tea! now give over I can't even remember what we were first discussing!

These shows produce the same manufactured drivel and lets be honest, Eoghan isn't pushing Nadine off the top of the charts...this is a marketing stunt by X-Factor to put themselves in the public eye! It wouldn't matter if it was a crowd of tone deaf crooners because it is from X-Factor it would STILL get to number 1!

BBC- Do you just not like them cus thay state Derry as their home? I too like real bands such as Kings of Leon, Oasis, U2, Killers etc, i'm just voicing my support for local acts cus as you may know, acts from this part of the world dont get much of a chance across the water. I'll admit i don't like the way X Factor has monopilised(hope thats rite) the Xmas #1, hopfully the winner gets a real challenge this year, maybe Slade will come out of retirement :D

Londonderry or Derry, you sure do produce some good singers,it must be the Londonderry or should I say the Derry air.
Who cares,what they call it.

Flim - the fact that I don't think those two are great and don't like X factor does not mean I most likely listen to Daniel O'Donnell! (do you actually believe what you write?) I like bands - real musicians who write their own stuff and play instruments! There are so many good bands out there and not just from NI! X Factor just rolls out the same drivel year in year out!

They are both pretty dire really. Couldn't care less where they are from. Chauvinism is dispicable at the best of times.

Both these singing puppets are not exactly talented! Girls aloud make hurrendous music or should I say sing hurrendous music that is written for them!
The little guy also has another really annoying voice.
I would not call either of them talented in any way, the type of singing that tends to feature in the majority of these stupid pop songs is terrible.
People that go out and buy this garbage need to open their ears and minds and educate themselves a little bit on music.
Pop factor dribble is not music!

BBC- o.k il agree i went ott with the greatest comment but apart from Snow Patrol which act from the north has had such impact on the pop culture in the last 2 decades? I'm guessing you dont watch the X factor or listen to the latest chart hits so il say just you go back to listening to Daniel O'Donnell* and the sort

*- Not that theirs anything wrong with Daniel O'Donnell, just i dont give kids worthers originals and talk about the War

Belfast - While I agree with your sentiment, you have not made the point you were trying to make because what you say is inaccurate. London is NOT the capital of the UK. London is the capital of England which is part of the UK (as is Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales)

Thanks 'me again' for the correction :) btu to put matters to an end, can we just all forget bout this name madness and comment on what this article is really about, two of the countrys greatest talents going head to head at the top of the charts, lets leave the derry/londonderry debate for an article that actually warrants it

Film - And I think you'll find that Londonderry is the accepted and Internationally recognised name for the city and the County. But I guess because London in the name (London - the capital city of the UK in which all residents of Northern Ireland live), is slightly British, it is oh so terribly offensive to the Roman Catholic population.
Little to worry about, springs to mind... As Andi said, Get a grip of yourself.

Any wonder this country is in the state it is in. Can people not just call the place what suits them and let others respect that whether is is Derry, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, the North of Ireland. Who cares???? Just wish them all the best and move on!!!! Really - time to grow up!
