Eve wanted to prove doubters wrong

Eve has revealed that she made her latest album Lip Lock to prove her doubters wrong.

The Satisfaction singer admitted she has been obsessed with getting the record out, 11 years after she released her third album Eve-Olution.

"I think I needed to get it out. It took so long. I'm one of those people who are so determined and I'm stubborn as well," said the 34-year-old.

"I had a lot of people tell me throughout this journey, 'Why don't you just have kids? Why aren't you married? Do you really want to be doing this? Don't you think you should just go chill out?' That kind of s*** is fuel to my fire."

The Grammy-winning rapper continued: "Do I want to have kids? Yes. I can't wait to be a mother and a wife, but at the same time, why can't I still make music? Why is it at a certain age, women have to go do this thing that people want them to do?

"I felt like I need to make this happen. I have things I still wanna say. I feel like there is a female voice that is void in hip-hop. There's a certain group of females who don't feel like they're being represented."

Following disputes with her former record label Interscope Records, Eve - who has moved to the UK to be with boyfriend Maximillion Cooper - decided to set up her own label, which Lip Lock is released through.

"It feels amazing. It's nice to make the decisions. In some ways, now that I own a label, it would be nice to know less information but at the same time, it's nice to have more control," she said.
