Ex-Bucks Fizz star in The Voice bid

Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston auditions for The Voice

Former chart-topping Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston leaves The Voice's coaches making their minds up as she tries out for the show.

The singer - who is 52 tomorrow - won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 but quit the group four years later, to be replaced by Shelley Preston.

In the latest audition show she will be seen trying out by performing the Muse hit Time Is Running Out.

Aston, who won Eurovision with Making Your Mind Up, was injured in a bus crash along with the rest of the group in 1984, leaving colleague Mike Nolan with severe head injuries.

Her injuries prompted her decision to leave the group and she has since performed as a solo act. She has also rejoined bandmates Nolan and Cheryl Baker, although they lost the right to call themselves Bucks Fizz following a legal battle.

Speaking on The Voice about her desire to have another break, she said: "I'm trying to pick up where I lost something out. And I guess there's a bit of me that still wants to be heard."

And as she prepares to take her audition, Aston says: "I could just end my career in 90 seconds or I could restart it - it's that simple. Now I feel like I'm 100 times better than I used to be then but nobody hears me."

She is not the only former chart star to appear on the show tomorrow at 8.05pm on BBC1, with ex-Hear'Say singer Danny Foster also trying to rejuvenate his career.
