Folk singer's TV soap opera

Ulster folk singer Ben Sands has come up smelling of roses after one of his songs was chosen for a nationwide soap advertisement.

Ben Sands, one of the famous singing family from Co Down, was surprised when the creators of the Cussons Imperial Leather ad contacted him about Hug from his album Better Already.

They told him they thought Hug was perfect for the ad and he agreed to let them use it.

The ad ran on primetime Saturday night TV last week, during the X Factor breaks and will be shown regularly in the run-up to Christmas as well as in cinemas throughout Ireland and UK.

Ben said: "As far as I know they found Hug on iTunes and thought it was perfect for the ad.

"It's a nice, warm song and the ad is very family friendly, with lots of people hugging, so it fits well.

"Folk music isn't very well marketed, we're quite an under-stated bunch, so it's lovely that my song is out there and more people are getting to know it."

This isn't a good time to make travel plans. Weather conditions and work responsibilities have a way of wreaking havoc with your schedule. Wait another few days before putting down a hefty deposit. Working behind the scenes will yield significant rewards. If someone asks you to serve as their assistant, go ahead and accept. The pay will be excellent and there will be a lot of fringe benefits, too. Don't talk about a neighbour's private life in mixed company.More
