Georgi Dochev leaves his flat in Pont D'Inca, Majorca. He was a friend of Boyzone star Stephen Gately who found his body
What happened the night Stephen Gately died was “not normal”, the man who found the Boyzone star's body has said.
Georgi Dochev (25), who said he had been friends with Gately since last summer, said the singer's death in his Majorcan apartment on Saturday had left him unstable.
Speaking at his apartment block in Pont d'Inca, he said: “I'm really scared of falling asleep now in case I don't wake up.”
Gately and his partner, Andrew Cowles, had been partying with Bulgarian Mr Dochev, his partner and other friends at a gay nightclub, the Black Cat, in Palma on Friday night, he said.
Mr Dochev then accompanied the couple back to their apartment in Port Andratx, about 20 miles away.
The singer was found dead by Mr Dochev and Mr Cowles on Saturday.
He said: “What happened that night is what happened. We know the autopsy results. He died a natural death.
“We were just partying that night but I can't really tell you why I went back to their house.”
He added: “I don't think this is a normal story.”
Mr Dochev, who is unemployed, has been invited to Gately's funeral in Dublin on Saturday but does not know whether he should go, he said.
“I still haven't decided if I'm going. I'm talking to my partner about it.”
Mr Dochev said he had been “nervous and stressed” since Gately died.
“It's not something that happens to you every day,” he said.
“I can't eat at the moment. I'm just smoking and drinking coffee.”
