Gaga's meat dress heads to museum

Lady Gaga stunned onlookers with her meat dress

Lady Gaga's famous meat dress is going on display in a Washington museum.

The controversial outfit has made its way to the US capital, along with Loretta Lynn's song about The Pill and other relics from music history.

The dress, from the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, has been dried and painted to restore its raw meat colour.

It's being displayed at the National Museum of Women In The Arts with an explanation of her political message.

When Lady Gaga wore the dress, she was accompanied by soldiers affected by the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which prevents openly gay people serving in the US military.

If people don't stand up for their rights they'll have as many rights as a piece of meat, she later said.

The dress is featured in an exhibit opening on Friday with items from other pioneering women in music.

Gaga herself, meanwhile, has been showing she's still a down-to-earth kind of girl by shunning a limo to travel by bicycle in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

The Sun reported that the Poker Face star went on a mammoth shopping trip - picking up 21 bags of vintage gear - after arriving in the city for a gig as part of her Born This Way tour.

Afterwards, the eccentric star, 26, who recently went from blonde to brunette, changed into a kimono-style outfit to pop out for a pint, to the delight of her fans, in a local cafe with her pet dog.
