George 'regrets rejecting honour'

Boy George says he turned down a royal honour

Boy George has claimed he once turned down the chance of an honour - and now regrets it.

The singer and DJ - who was jailed last year for falsely imprisoning a male escort - said his mother was upset after learning he had rejected the accolade.

In an interview to be broadcast on Absolute Radio, he said his mother Dinah would love to accompany him to Buckingham Palace.

Presenter Geoff Lloyd asked the ex-Culture Club star whether he had ever been approached for an OBE or Knighthood.

George said: "I was asked a few years ago whether I would take one and I kind of said no, but I think if I was asked again I would say yes now.

"I was a bit belligerent at that point, and my mom was so upset."

The Karma Chameleon singer said he had never met the Queen, although he had met a number of other royals. "I met Margaret when she was alive, and I met Diana a few times, who was adorable, very sweet, but never met the Queen.

"I would love to meet the Queen. I'd take my mom to Buckingham Palace. Now that I've grown up a bit my mom would love to go for the day, you know."

:: The full interview is to be aired on Geoff Lloyd's Hometime Show on Absolute Radio from 4pm on October 12.
