Ellie Goulding has become an obsessive marathon racer - saying it helps her write songs.
The 23-year-old singer/songwriter said she wouldn't be able to sleep at night unless she went running.
Ellie, who landed the Critics Choice prize at the Brit Awards earlier this year, told The Sun: "It helps me to write songs and keeps my head clear. I probably wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't run."
Ellie told how she had been determined to succeed to escape her home-life.
"I was desperate to get out so I got really stuck in at school and tried my best to get a great education," she said.
Ellie said her real father walked out when she was five, leaving her mother to bring up four young kids.
The pop star grew up living off benefits in a council home in Kington, Herefordshire.
She was so determined to pay her own way during her drama degree, she held down more than one job.
"I went to uni and got a couple of jobs, so I sort of funded it myself," she said.
