Jack White has compared blues singers to priests.

The 35-year-old musician is best known as the guitarist, pianist, and lead vocalist of rock group The White Stripes, which he performs in with ex-wife Meg White on drums and vocals.

The talented artist has spoken in the past about how he nearly became a priest instead of a musician, and he thinks the professions aren’t so different after all. Jack eventually realised he would rather concentrate on his musical talent, and has joked that his calling was to the stage, not the church.

“I was thinking at 14 that possibly I might have had the calling to be a priest...Blues singers sort of have the same feelings as someone who’s called to be a priest might have,” he explained.

“I thought maybe I need to give myself a chance to play music while I’m a teenager. I guess a different calling, on stage really.”

The star adores making music, and admits it wouldn’t bother him if people weren’t even listening to his records. He is outspoken about his dislike for modern musical methods, as he finds using technology in music production isn’t always the best idea.

“I’m going to work on music and art everyday regardless of whether someone wants to buy it,” he asserted in an interview with BBC Radio 4.

“I’m not about using the newest toy just because it’s the newest toy. I like to use what makes most sense.”
