Jennifer Hudson for Idol panel?

Jennifer Hudson is apparently in talks about being a judge on American Idol

Jennifer Hudson is reportedly on the verge of signing up to be a judge on the next series of American Idol.

The Oscar-winning actress - who was a finalist in the third series of the singing talent show in 2004 - is already in talks with Fox about joining the Idol panel, according to New York magazine's Vulture blog.

One source even told the site the deal with Jennifer is essentially "done".

Fox refused to comment, and many star names have been linked to the judging panel in the past that have never materialised on the show.

The most recent series of American Idol - now in its 12th year - saw an all-star new judges line-up with divas Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj and country singer Keith Urban brought in to join music producer Randy Jackson.

But the season finale saw a 34 per cent drop in ratings from the previous year, and Randy, who has been on the panel since the beginning of the show, recently announced he is leaving.

Producers are said to be planning a major revamp with original Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert, who was runner-up in the eighth series, also being linked to the show.
