Jessie J, the hotly tipped singer, has landed the Critics Choice award at next year's Brits.

Her win has made it a clean sweep for female singers since the gong was introduced four years ago.

The 22-year-old has become the second high-profile Essex-born singer to win a top award in a matter of days, following Matt Cardle's X Factor victory at the weekend.

She has picked up an online following with her video for debut single Do It Like A Dude racking up more than two million views on YouTube in a week.

The raven-haired singer said: "This is epic. It has been a dream since I was a little girl to win a Brit. I can't believe it's happened."

Electronic musician and producer James Blake and guitar band The Vaccines had also been up for the Critics Choice prize, chosen by music writers.

Jessie will be presented with her prize at the Brit Awards ceremony at London's O2 Arena on February 15.

Adele, Florence And The Machine and Ellie Goulding have been past recipients of the prize.

Jessie will also perform at the shortlist announcement for the event, officially called the Brit Awards 2011 with MasterCard. Nominations will be announced on January 13.
