Jennifer Lopez kicked off the 2014 World Cup in style - watched by over 8 million TV viewers in the UK.
The Jenny From The Block singer - who was previously said to have pulled out due to unspecified "production issues" - showed off her famous curves in a green and gold leotard, as she took to the stage with rapper Pitbull and Brazilian pop star Claudia Leitte. The trio performed the tournament's official tune, We Are One (Ole Ola), ahead of the opening game between Brazil and Croatia in Sao Paulo.
The ceremony began with 660 dancers paying tribute to the host nation's natural beauty and culture by dressing as trees, flowers and musical instruments.
Brazil's triumph in the opening match of the World Cup was watched by more than 12 million viewers in the UK.
The 3-1 victory by the home nation over Croatia pulled in a peak audience of 12.6 million, while an average of 11.2 million watched for the duration of the match, screened by ITV.
It was a huge leap on the opening game for the previous tournament in 2010, staged in the afternoon in South Africa, which drew an average 4.3 million.
The full coverage of last night's match, together with the opening ceremony including stars such as Jennifer Lopez, drew an average 8.2 million viewers.
The programme also saw ITV unveil its theme tune for the match, a new version of the standard Aquarela Do Brasil. The network had kept the tune under wraps until last night's broadcast.
