Katy Perry was named Elle woman of the year

Katy Perry has been crowned Woman Of The Year at the 2014 Elle Style Awards.

The Roar singer was presented with her gong by pop princess Kylie Minogue at the glamorous award ceremony in London.

The 29-year-old US pop star is known for her campaign work for gay rights and her support of same-sex marriage.

Katy, who divorced British comedian Russell Brand in 2011 after just 14 months of marriage, recently recorded duet Who You Love with boyfriend John Mayer, and the couple are rumoured to be engaged.

Guests including model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne, singer Ellie Goulding, former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko and designer Tom Ford were treated to a champagne reception, a 1950s supper club menu and table butler service at the magazine's 17th annual celebration of style.

Lily Allen, who recently returned to the music scene after taking a break to become a mother, was named Female UK Recording Artist of the Year and said she felt "humbled" to have returned to music again.

"I'm feeling very good, very happy. I can't believe it - I'm in shock," she said after collecting her award.

"I'm very happy and very humbled to be back."

The face of Burberry, Suki Waterhouse, who took home the gong for Model of the Year, said it was the "perfect end to London Fashion Week."

"I'm really excited, thank you, thank you," she gushed. "I won model of the year, how weird, how bizarre."

Asked what the key to being a successful model is, she said: "Perseverance and trying to keep happy. It's not easy. I've been doing it since I was 16."

Tinie Tempah - who earlier this week high-fived the Duke of Cambridge as he performed at the Baftas - took home the title of Male UK Recording Artist of the Year.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson was awarded Actress of the Year and Happy singer Pharrell Williams was presented with the gong for International Recording Artist.

Pharrell said it was the "biggest song I have ever done in my life" after hundreds of fans uploaded copycat videos of themselves dancing along to the catchy tune.

He revealed he would give a style award to the Olsen twins, Brad Pitt and Chanel, adding: "My taste is a little all over the place."

Fashion photographer David Bailey was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award by designer and director Tom Ford while Tom Hiddleston, fresh from his run starring in Coriolanus at the Donmar theatre, London, was named Man of the Year.

British designer of the year went to Scotsman Christopher Kane who said he was a "little bit in shock, I'm very proud".

Talking about how his life has changed, he added: "People are always surprised I still have my Scottish accent. I'm very lucky, I have a great background and support."

He also took the opportunity to back a united Great Britain: "I think we're great united, stronger united, and that's it."

The Elle Style Awards 2014 in association with Warehouse were hosted by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw at newly refurbished venue One Embankment.
