Keith Richards' 50 yr library fine

Keith Richards reportedly owes thousands of pounds in library fines for overdue books dating back 50 years.

The Rolling Stones star, 69, has apparently racked up a very un-rock and roll debt in the form of fines owed to his local public library in Dartford, Kent, for books he borrowed when he was a teenager and has never returned.

Keith is quoted in The Daily Mirror as saying: "I've still got overdue fines from about 50 years ago. They must be astronomical by now."

At 15p a day, plus interest and administration fees, his library bill is now estimated to be well into four figures.

The rocker - who has an estimated personal fortune of £175 million - has revealed he liked to hang out at the library when he was younger.

Keith said: "To me it was a place where you get a hint there was somewhere called civilisation.

"It was the only place where I would willingly obey the laws, like silence. It was somewhere I could find out about things I was interested in."

A receptionist at Dartford Library told The Daily Mirror: "For fines going back 50 years it's going to be tough to work out exactly how much is owed.

"We'd have to check the archives. Usually the biggest fines we issue are around £100."
