Klaxons scoop Best Art Vinyl 2010

The Klaxons' cover art was named the best of 2010

Klaxons album Surfing The Void has clinched the prize Best Art Vinyl 2010 for its cover image of a cat in a space suit.

The London band's second album, which peaked at number ten in the UK chart, joins a prestigious list of previous Best Art Vinyl winners which include Muse, Fleet Foxes, Thom Yorke, the Cribs and Hard-Fi.

The award, now in its sixth year, was created by Art Vinyl to highlight the very best in sleeve design.

Caribou's album Swim took second place for 2010 and the relatively unknown German dance label Cadenza was third with its four tracks 12" Split EP of dance tunes

Initial nominees were selected by a panel of expert sleeve designers before a public vote was conducted online and at exhibitions in the UK, France, Belgium and Sweden.

Founder Andrew Heeps said: "We congratulate Klaxons and the designer Richard Robinson on an extremely striking image which won by a clear margin.

"We may live in the age of the download, but an MP3 cannot offer the visual and emotional appeal of a great vinyl sleeve."

The Best Art Vinyl 2010 winners will be featured at three UK exhibitions from January 4, at The British Music experience at the O2 Arena in London, Georges House Gallery in Folkestone and the Art's Complex in Edinburgh.

Best Art Vinyl exhibitions are also on show in Paris, Brussels and Gothenburg.
