Lana Del Rey has thanked her fans for softening the blow of her bad reviews, by making her album number one in 11 countries.

The Born To Die singer's debut album has been panned by critics, calling it "dull, dreary" and a "staggering disappointment".

But Lana tweeted: "Thank you for making the record #1 in 11 countries. Your sweet words have softened the effect of even the harshest reviews. I adore you."

The 25-year-old singer-songwriter - real name Lizzie Grant - has been accused of being manufactured with critics branding her album boring.

But Lana insisted she writes all her own songs and has the final say in all her work.

She revealed: "I get very personal messages coming to me, like hate mail, so there is a flipside to the attention my music has been getting."

Meanwhile, the Video Games singer has revealed she looks up to pop princess Britney Spears.

She told Rick Astley on UK radio station Magic 105.4: "When it comes to Britney, I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about her that compelled me, the way she sings and just the way she looks."
