Lennon tribute concert planned

A John Lennon tribute concert will be held in New York

A tribute concert is to be held to mark what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday.

The late Beatle would have hit the milestone on October 9.

An all-star benefit concert in honour of the star will be held at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on November 12.

The line-up includes Jackson Browne, Patti Smith and Cyndi Lauper. Performers will also include Aimee Mann and Shelby Lynne, among others.

Proceeds will go to the Playing For Change Foundation, which promotes peace with music.

The concert will be presented by the group Theatre Within.

The legendary musician was shot outside his New York home in 1980, aged just 40.
