Leona Lewis has said that Mel B will bring some feistiness to the X Factor panel.

The Spice Girl has joined Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole as a judge on the upcoming series of the ITV1 singing show.

The Bleeding Love singer, who won the competition in 2006, said: "It's amazing. I think she's going to be really good. She's so feisty and sassy, which I love about her."

Leona - who stars in musical film Walking On Sunshine alongside Greg Wise and Hannah Arterton - said she is looking forward to watching the new series when it begins later this year.

"It's going to be so cool. Simon's back so it's going to be so much fun," she added.

The 29-year-old also revealed her excitement over her new record deal. She has left Simon Cowell's record company after a seven-year association and signed a new deal with Island Records, part of rival music giant Universal.

"I'm excited. It's kind of early stages right now so I'm just looking forward to making music with them," Leona said.

Walking On Sunshine is released in cinemas on June 27.
