Mary J Blige has revealed that playing Nina Simone would be a dream role - but the biopic is still postponed.
The R&B diva, who stars in Rock Of Ages, has wanted to portray the late jazz icon since 2005 in the as-yet-untitled film, based on Nina's 1992 autobiography I Put A Spell On You.
"It's in a holding pattern. I don't really have anything to tell you, except for that right now," said Mary.
When the call comes though, Mary admits she is more than ready to jump straight into the part.
"I've prepped for it for about five years but with all the media saying I'm doing it and not having their side of things together, I really don't want to talk about it until I know it's all etched in stone," she added.
Mary - who is researching to play Malcolm X's wife Dr Betty Shabazz in TV film Parallel Lives - revealed that she has always wanted to act.
"When I was a kid, I used to be the lead in a lot of plays because my music teacher chose me," she recalled.
"Watching movies as a kid, I always thought, 'Wow, I wanna do that someday'. But it was so far-fetched.
"When I got into the music business, I didn't even know if I would make it as a singer so acting was something I put on hold until it was time. And when it was time, I went for it."
