Mel B a stand-in for X Factor?

Mel B has been a guest judge on The X Factor before

X Factor bosses want Spice Girl Mel B to replace Nicole Scherzinger if the former Pussycat Doll decides not to return to the show, according to reports.

While Sharon Osbourne, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh are all expected to sign up for the next ITV series, Nicole has still not committed because of concern about whether she can do the show while promoting her next album, according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, Mel was brought back as a contender after her schedule was freed following her withdrawal from Australia's Got Talent.

But a source close to Nicole told the newspaper that Nicole, who has reportedly been offered £1 million to return to the show, did intend to sign up for The X Factor once she has worked out a deal.

In 2011, Dannii Minogue stood down as a judge on The X Factor just days before the new series was due to launch.

An insider was quoted as saying: "Producers don't want to be left in the lurch... so Mel is being lined up in case talks fail."
