MIA: Upcoming album is too positive

MIA says her new album is now due out in April

MIA has revealed her long-awaited fourth album Matangi was postponed for being "too positive".

The Sri Lankan-British rapper, whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, claimed the album's release was delayed by her record company Interscope because the tone was too upbeat.

"I thought I'd finished it. I finished it and then I handed the record in, like a couple of months ago," she told Australia's Gold Coast Bulletin.

"At the moment I've been told it's too positive. So we're having a bit of an issue at the label. They're like, 'You need to darken it up a bit. It's like 'We just built you up as the public enemy number one and now you're coming out with all this positive stuff'," added the 35-year-old.

The Paper Planes singer explained that Matangi will be released in the spring.

"It's due in April, which is the Tamil new year - April 15 - and I'm still working on it. I'm taking my time to decide what they mean. It's an interesting one for me."

MIA, who is mother to three-year-old son Ikhyd, is no stranger to controversy. The outspoken singer was criticised for raising her middle finger during her Super Bowl performance with Madonna, and her 2010 ViCKi LEEKX mixtape was inspired by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, of whom she is a supporter.

Gemini:

This is a good time to establish a routine. Create a schedule that strikes a nice balance between your personal and professional lives. You're the type of person who needs plenty of intellectual stimulation outside of work. If you've been spending too much time at the office, reduce your hours. This may mean less money, but you can't put a price on happiness. You might even decide to take a job with unconventional hours so you can play sports or spend more time outdoors.More
