Oasis to headline at Slane
Wednesday, 15 October 2008
Oasis superstar Noel Gallagher is expected to jet into Ireland today to announce a headlining gig at Slane Castle next summer.
The Mancunian rockers — currently number one in the album charts with Dig Out Your Soul — will play to a crowd of up to 80,000 fans in their first show at the Boyneside venue in 14 years.
Back in 1995, the band supported headliners REM, but blew them off the stage with a show that sealed their superstar status.
Noel is expected to fly into Dublin by private jet with another member of Oasis, although it is understood he will not be accompanied by his brother Liam.
The rockers will then be flown to Slane Castle by helicopter to hold a press conference, expected to be attended by dozens of Irish journalists and photographers.
Oasis are bound for Belfast later this month when they play a double date at the Odyssey Arena.
The two shows — on October 29 and 30 — sold out within an hour of going on sale.
The last time Oasis played Belfast — December 18 and 19, 2005 — they broke all previous box office records, selling out tickets in 14 minutes.
The Belfast shows are part of the band’s upcoming UK tour, which will see the rock giants play 18 shows.
Last year Slane Castle, owned by Lord Henry Mount Charles, took a break from hosting a rock show.
The previous year The Rolling Stones performed at the venue.

Who told you this nonsense as. You weren't obviously at the concert? I am am a big fan of Oasis but their sound was terrible that day. REM blew everyone else away!
Regards,
Paul.
