Spanish guitar and Latin sounds mixed with rhythm and bass as Basement Jaxx headlined the first night of the Belsonic music festival.

The London electronic dance duo took to the open air stage in the atmospheric surrounds of Belfast's Custom House Square before thousands of fans.

Dancers wore elaborate golden head dresses while the audience, a mixture of 20 and 30-somethings, revelled in the crowd-pleasing beats.

Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe originally achieved popular acclaim in the 1990s and are the first in an eclectic range of headliners. Belsonic will run until Monday 26 August.

Among acts taking part will be Ben Howard on Saturday night and Suede on the following Saturday, 24 August.

The third and final night of Tennent's Vital also took place at the Boucher Road Playing Fields in south Belfast.

Tinie Tempah headlined the event along with Avicii, Rudimental Live and Tommy Trash.
