Orton back after losing confidence

Beth Orton is back with a new album and UK tour

Beth Orton has said she feels back on form after losing her confidence.

The singer, 41, is back with a new album, Sugaring Season, and tour after six years off the radar.

She said: "Comfort Of Strangers came out in February 2006, and for some reason I lost so much confidence.

"Not because it didn't sell well, or this, that and the other, I just felt very vulnerable at that time.

"The album changed a lot of things in my life. Lots of painful stuff came up, and it left me feeling vulnerable, so the idea of being out in the public was really scary."

The singer was pregnant and on her own when she started writing Last Trees Of Autumn, which made it onto the new album.

Then she met American singer songwriter Sam Amidon, whom she married last year. They have a son, Arthur, giving Beth the family she always wanted, but never thought she'd have.

"Creating a family is something I've always longed for, you know, a proper family with a husband and kids. It's not something I ever thought would happen, but it has. And it's amazing," she said.

:: Beth Orton's fifth album Sugaring Season is out now. She begins a UK tour in Sheffield on November 27.

Aries:

You will have to defer to others, which makes you anxious. There's never any problem when you're in control. You know how to act quickly and decisively. When others are at the helm, progress grinds to a halt. People deliberate endlessly over simple matters. Instead of putting pressure on the person in charge, make a strategic retreat. If you act like you don't care about the outcome of a situation, they won't be paralysed with uncertainty. You have a tendency to make people nervous.More
