Plan B and Arcade Fire eye Q Awards

Plan B has been nominated for three Q Awards

Plan B and Arcade Fire head the nominations for the Q Awards.

The two acts are each up for three awards at the annual prize bash thrown by the music magazine, which takes place next month.

Mercury Music Prize-winners The xx are among a number of acts with two nominations, including Florence And The Machine, Kasabian and Mumford & Sons. Muse, Gorillaz and Biffy Clyro are also up for a pair of awards.

Plan B is up for best album for The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, breakthrough act and best male, while Arcade Fire will compete for best album with The Suburbs, best video and best act in the world today.

Plan B also has a hand in another nomination, as he provided vocals for Chase And Status's End Credits which is up for best video.

Also up for best album at the event - officially called Q Awards 2010 With Russian Standard Vodka - are Plastic Beach by Gorillaz, Paul Weller's Wake Up The Nation and The National's High Violet.

Competing with Arcade Fire for the best act in the world title are Green Day, Kasabian, Kings Of Leon and Muse.

The awards, taking place at London's Grosvenor House on October 25, introduce three new categories - best male, best female and next big thing.

Comic Al Murray will host the show for a second year.

Q editor-in-chief Paul Rees said: "I'm delighted to say that the quality and variety of the acts nominated this year testifies strongly to the fact that music right now is as vibrant and exciting as it's ever been."
