Plastic bag boxer pups back with mum
Thursday, 30 July 2009

Feeding time for one of the eight boxer pups abandoned in a bag that was hung on a garden fence in Belfast
A litter of abandoned boxer pups have been reunited with their heartbroken mother.
The eight pups had been left in a bag tied to a gate in the Poleglass area last week after apparently being abandoned by their owners.
Boxer mum ‘Honey’ yesterday nursed the eight pups after she was reunited with them.
Since the pups are real fighters, six of them have been called after famous local and world-renowned boxers, with names such as Rinty, Rogie and Russell. Honey was rescued on Monday after PSNI officers, accompanied by a Lisburn City Council dog warden, entered a house in Poleglass and took possession of the purebred boxer.
Distressed neighbours, who had been feeding Honey for some months, retrieved the pups in the torrential downpour that hit the city last Thursday.
Speaking at the safehouse where litter and mum were reunited, a dedicated volunteer last night said: “I’ve never seen a dog in such a poor state but if ever a dog could smile it was her when I brought her home and she saw her pups.”

It's great to see what can be achieved when people actually care!
Well done to all those concerned!

How could anyone call themselves a dog lover and be so heartless. Thanks to the kind neighbours who tried to look after Honey and to the foster mother she and the pups are now staying with. A little bit of kindness goes a long way. What kind of people are in this town?

Its a sad fact of life that people who are cruel to animals are a potential risk to children. When they are caught they are automatically put on a social sevices, a risk to kids register. To anyone who has knowledge of animal cruelty I say report them to the police if they think anything of their children!!

God Bless the kind neighbours, they should get a medal.
Amy called me to tell me this dreadful story we are both sickened by the cruel heartless actions of these sub humans.!!!
It is beyond imagination that some humans lack heart or soul.
It is their loss not to know the joy of undying love and devotion,.from having a pet in your life.
We are fortunate to see Maddux the" glorious " owned by Amy and my son Chris. He is a hearts delight and well loved and cherished just a great big bundle of joy.

I have a three year old Boxer and they are such lovable dogs I don't know how anyone could be so cruel. I hope the people concerned are prosecuted to the full extent of the Law. They could have contacted any of the agencies or offered the mother and her pups free to a good home. Hope all the puppies make it

Well done to Lisburn Council, PSNI, caring neighbours and to the dedication of the unamed caring carer. Thank God the pups and mum have been reunited, there must be a way of stopping this crime happening again. How could any human being be so cruel...

I have a 4 year old boxer bitch which is just adorable. They are such adorable dogs and are fantistic with people. How anyone could be so cruel to do this so such a defenceless animal is beyond me.

Thanks.....
As for your quick suggestion - I personally believe the justice system in America has the right approach all round - murders get 99 years, rapists get up to 50 years..... Why not just adopt the entire penal system from America including the return of Captial Punishment......
Hows that for an idea....

well done Lisburn council, the PSNI and the kind concerned neighbours.

Good suggestion from 'Dog Lover' - lock them up for 20 years - be interesting to see how we would then deal with armed robbers, rapists and child molesters. Quick suggestion - engage brain, then approach keyboard!

How people can be so cruel to animals is beyond my understanding. I am a proud owner of a boxer named Maddux and they are definitly gentle giants...God bless the neighbours who took a stand and cared for this helpless mum. I hope that the homes that they go to will be screened strictly so they don't have to experience such cruelty ever again.

The so called "owners" of this dog and the subsequent pups should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, found guilty and locked away.... Its disgusting that people could do this to an animal that gives unconditional love....
I love the American way of dealing with animal cruelty - innocent till proven guilty, trial, found guilty and jailed for 20 years.... Bring that policy in over here and that should deter theses people from doing this.....

great. the owners of this poor dog should be treated the same way they treated the dog.
I hope all pups go on to recover and lead long healthy and happy lives.

i have just been trying to breed my purebreed boxer and was unsuccesful. i am mortified that someone could do this to their poor animal, she is not a machine, i hope they will never be able to keep animals again. the puppies are beautiful and i would be interested in taking one.
can you please contact me about where or how i would go about getting one of these puppies. my bitch has just turned 2 and if i thought i could get a puupy i would get her sped instead of breeding her.

The people who did this are scum. No doubt if they were prosecuted they would receive the usual joke sentence or fine.
